Chinese social platform Weibo reverses ban on gay content after outrage

As part of a campaign against pornography and violence, Weibo, a Chinese social media platform, included homosexual content.

Weibo called it necessary to “purify” the online environment.

The statement triggered massive controversy.

Numerous Weibo users showed support for the LGBT community by using the hashtag #IAmGay.

Within 4 days, the hashtag had gained over 61 million views on Weibo.

Weibo reversed its decision to ban all homosexuality-related content from its platform after hearing the protest on social media.
